Shift Supervisor

ROLE PURPOSE

  • To oversee and validate the implementation of all effective actions to ensure the production and dispatch of electricity, desalinated water, and wastewater at all facilities as per contractual and safety requirements while acting as Safety champion.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Departmental)

Strategy Development 

Contribute to the development of sectional strategy as cascaded down from the departmental strategy and oversee its implementation throughout the section and its operations, to ensure vertical alignment and horizontal integration with other interfacing departmental strategies across Marafiq.

People Management

Manage the section team of direct and indirect reports through effective recruitment advice (whenever asked by Mgmt. level), development, performance management, and succession planning, in order to maximize team performance and achieve sectional objectives.

Operational Management 

Manage the section’s daily operations by providing expertise, enabling teamwork, and aligning processes, in order to achieve high performance standards and meet established targets.
Ensure the appropriate and timely hand-over of all information, activities and inventory to the upcoming shift.
Act on behalf of Operation Manager during his/her absence and be responsible to take and implement all the necessary decisions which will ensure safe, efficient and reliable operation of the Power and Water Plant.
Ensure effective and efficient interfacing with the off-taker for any issue related to production and dispatch of utilities.

Budget Management 

Contribute to the development and consolidation of the sectional budget and monitor the section’s financial performance versus the budget, to ensure the exercising of financial authority within established limits and the control of sectional budget expenditure.

Overseeing Execution of Actions

Validate and oversee the implementation of all effective actions to ensure the production and dispatch of electricity, desalinated water, and wastewater at all facilities as per contractual requirements.
Supervise the safe execution of the Permit-To-Work system related activities.

Review & Assessment

Follow-up, review, assess, and update the Operation Readiness Plan (ORP) and the Business Management System (BMS).
Review the commissioning plans and procedures, preservation procedures, materials required for such activity and follow up on implementation in both power and water plants.

Ensuring Safety Measures

Approve safe isolations, temporary and permanent restoration of all equipment under own supervision, testing, etc. and conduct Job risk assessment, Safety toolbox talks, etc.

Coordination with Stakeholders

Coordinate with all concerned departments (including Project Team) to ensure that all activities are scheduled and carried out in a safe and time-efficient manner, without impact on overall plant availability.
Coordinate with off-takers’ focal points regarding utilities dispatching, load shedding and any other common activity which requires interfacing, or that is assigned by line management.
Coordinate with any contractor related to Company’s specific activities, ensuring activities execution matching the contractual requirement (LTSA, OHL Maintenance agreement, major overhauls third-party agreements, etc.).

Reporting & Providing Recommendations

Compile comprehensive Operational reports, review and inform management line of any issues and validate the Plant log of the activities (electronic or handwritten).
Raise concerns about Plant technical condition, propose corrective actions, report effectively to management line and follow up for corrective actions undertaking.
Be responsible for report’s conclusions and recommendations issued by other concerned departments (Chemist, Maintenance, HSE, etc.).

Contribute to the development and manage the communication and implementation of the section’s policies and procedures to ensure that all relevant procedural and legislative requirements are clearly communicated and duly fulfilled.
Observe and adhere at all times to the Company IT policy, ensuring proper utilisation of Company’s assets and information.

Contribute to the management of sectional compliance to all relevant health, safety and quality requirements, in order to guarantee employee safety and legislative compliance.
Act as a Safety Champion in the Company, establishing and building a Safety Culture within the organisation.

Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices taking into account ‘leading best practices’, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS 

Educational & Professional Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Process / Instrumentation & Control Engineering from a recognised University
Proficiency in English is a must, Arabic is a plus.

Minimum Experience:

5 to 8 years of direct and relevant experience out of which 5 years in a supervisory role in a similar industrial environment (power plant and reverse osmosis desalination)
Background in commissioning, turn-over to operations and commissioning is essential. 

Skills and Competencies

Generic Skills: Communication skills, Computer literacy (ERP), Microsoft tool (Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Word).

Job Specific Skills: Leadership skills, Interpersonal skills, Efficiency in Record Keeping & Reporting, Sound knowledge and interest in power and water plants operations and alternative energy, Sound knowledge in Power 100-300 MW, Desalination water 10,000 – 15,000 m3/Day and Wastewater Treatment processes.
