Marafiq Power Supply to the Special Economic Zone of Duqm

The government owned electricity company operating in Duqm “Tanweer” has previously operated a diesel power plant to supply the SEZ-Duqm with electricity. This plant was costly and released emissions in the environment. Therefore, Marafiq proposed a solution to install state of the art gas turbines in order to provide major cost saving to the government and greatly reduce emissions in the environment by switching from diesel to natural gas.

The Power Supply to SEZ-Duqm project kicked off in 2021 and Marafiq achieved power supply to Tanweer in Jan 2022; supplying the entire SEZ-Duqm. Successful completion of the project has resulted in millions of savings to Oman annually and has reduced the annual CO2 emissions by 90,000 tons per year (equivalent to removing 20,000 cars from the roads).
